Kickin’ It!

Now that we’re all trying to get rid of those extra pounds we put on during the holidays it’s a good time to energize our workouts.
Instead of hitting the gym, there’s nothing better than hitting the beach…being outdoors with your iPod and kicking up some sand. In addition to getting in shape, this is a good way to warm up before you paddle out or play volleyball.

SurfWriter Girls Sunny Magdaug and Patti Kishel consulted with DJ Chris Lawhorn, a lifestyle contributor to Men’s Health, Real Age, Shape and Marie Claire magazines, to find out the best beach workout music. Lawhorn sent us his Top Ten Winter Workout Music favorites. He even calculated the “beats per minute” for each selection so you can be your own DJ and set the pace you want.

For more music selections to get you pumping, check out Lawhorn’s free database at RunHundred.com. It’s the world’s most heavily trafficked workout music blog and you’ll find lots to choose from. You can browse the song selections there by genre, tempo, and era to find the music that best fits with your particular workout routine. Plus, Lawhorn puts together new compilations of workout music each month based on the votes cast by the subscribers to his website.

So, whether it’s walking, running, cycling, aerobics or martial arts, just get moving to the beat. There’s no time like the present to kick your beach workout routine into high gear.
There’s even a “winter bonus” effect now – our bodies burn more calories exercising in winter because they work harder to stay warm. For SurfWriter Girls Sunny and Patti this is music to our ears.
