We’re looking forward to the 2011 Nike US Open of Surfing that is starting this weekend. It runs from July 30 to August 7. All events are free and open to the public or can be viewed live daily at www.usopenofsurfing.com.
With more than 500,000 people expected in a 14-acre stretch of sand next to the Huntington Beach Pier, the Nike US Open of Surfing will showcase the best in surfing, skating, BMX, music, fashion and art.
In addition to surfing competitions, the event will feature stunts from talented riders from across the globe performing in a state-of-the-art skate bowl and a crew of BMX riders pushing the realm of possibility. The runway will be busy, too, as five of the nation’s top high schools compete for $25,000 in the Hurley Walk the Walk National Championship youth fashion competition. And the US Open Music Stage will host a lineup of bands sure to blow out the amplifiers.
There’ll be more than 100 interactive exhibits, autograph signings, DJs and giveaways. Other sponsors include: G-Shock, Skullcandy, Red Bull, Pacifico, Paul Mitchell Salon Haircare, Invisalign Teen and Transworld Media.
If you want a break from the sun, head out to Duke's, Sandy's Bar and Grill, Ruby's on the pier, or the Shorebreak Hotel, a popular hang-out for the Surfrider Foundation.
