Colors in the Sand

Red eggs, blue eggs,
Even strange hue eggs.
Eggs with squiggly lines and spots,
Bright flowers and polka dots.

Strewn along the shore,
Each egg leading to more.
All nestled in the sand,
Left by an unknown hand.

Did they come from a colorful bird?
No, it’s Easter, haven’t you heard?
So, c’mon, let’s get going!
Fill your basket to overflowing.

Poem by SurfWriter Girls Sunny Magdaug and Patti Kishel©

In addition to delivering Easter eggs, rabbits have held prominent roles in fiction from the White Rabbit in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to that “wascally wabbit” Bugs Bunny of Looney Tunes fame. Sometimes naughty, sometimes nice, these memorable rabbits have left their paw prints on our lives.

“Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight away to Mr. McGregor’s garden, and squeezed under the gate.”

Beatrix Potter – The Tale of Peter Rabbit

“Weeks passed, and the little rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all the whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about.”

Margery Williams – The Velveteen Rabbit

Wishing You a Happy Spring!

May you have Peter Rabbit’s sense of adventure and the
Velveteen Rabbit’s kind heart and giving nature.

  1. Great post. What's not to like here! I enjoyed it all from hand painted eggs to the ocean to one of my favorite books. Easter is significant for so many reasons regardless of your age or religious views. Easter represents new life in plants and flowers. Many people hope it means less snow - they have shoveled too much of the white stuff this year.

  2. Easter is fun with kids.... I like hiding the eggs with money in them and watching the little ones frantically look.
