Kohl's Cares!

Making the World Better

A Surfrider Sponsor Story

Written by SurfWriter Girls Sunny Magdaug and Patti Kishel

Surfrider Foundation sponsor Kohl's is more than a place to find fashions and housewares. It's a company that wants to make the world a better place.

Founded by Polish immigrant Maxwell Kohl, who started with a corner grocery store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1927, Kohl's opened its first department store in 1962 and has grown into one of the country's most successful retailing chains.

Kohl's believes in giving back to the community and protecting the environment. Through its volunteer activities, corporate contributions and Kohl's Cares program it's bringing people together and helping to improve lives.

SurfWriter Girls Sunny Magdaug and Patti Kishel have seen Kohl's associates out in force at charity events in SoCal.

And at Surfrider's annual Ohana (family) Day that celebrates togetherness in Seal Beach...

picking up trash and helping to sort throwaways for recycling.

We love the Kohl's Cares books and stuffed animals the company sells.

These not only put smiles on children's faces, but help to encourage reading.

It's great to know that 100% of the net profit from Kohl’s Cares merchandise goes to support happier and healthier communities nationwide. Nearly $340 million has been raised.

As part of its commitment to the environment, Kohl's utilizes sustainable (green) practices that protect our natural resources, recycles materials, and conserves water. In 2018 Kohl's received the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award.

Following its corporate mission to put customers and its communities first, Kohl's is helping others...

and strengthening the bonds of Ohana that we all share.
